Art

devcover

So a few things to report here, firstly I was asked to write an article for Develop magazine and they kindly made it the cover article for this month’s issue which was super nice. the article is pretty much about getting started making games on a cheap budget, and how to keep going, you can read it online here (pages 18-19)

I was also sort of interviewd with a few other cool folks for an article in a previous issue which is now available right on their blog type features thing: its mostly people talking about what it’s like being indie and indie issues and this is the link to that.

And as I mentioned in my last post, I was a speaker at the World of Love conference last month, I understand videos will be uploaded of the talks at some point (I suspect the new footage of Subversion and Eskil Steenberg’s tools will be the hottest things on the internet once they are) and I’ll link that here when it’s available. (even though I was pretty shakey and probably not so understandable).

the talk was titled ‘computer games are awesome, but you suck because you haven’t made one yet, you lazy bastard.‘ and I spoke about how it puzzles me that some people who want to make games don’t, and list off a few reasons why they should. I’ll post what I planned to say after the jump so view this post in full if you want to read it. :)

Sarah’s Run

15Jun10

To those who dont follow any of my other social networks, I took a break from working on Phantasmal to make another short game about messing with gravity… again.

This time though it’s not BOXGAME, but Sarah’s Run: Escape from Capital Evil

you can play the 10-level preview here, you can follow my progress making the game at it’s development blog. (EDIT; you can now also track the game on IndieDB here)

Hopefully I’ll be able to offer pre-orders of the game to fund development (and stop my debt getting any worse), if you want to be notified when pre-orders are available, sign up to the mailing list.

here are some screenshots for ya:

In other news, I’ll be speaking at the World of Love conference in london later this month, and then I’ll be at the love jam for the weekend. should be interesting as I’ve never been to an IRL jam before, nor have I actually met any of my fellow indies face to face either (well apart from how an other speaker Tom Betts was one of my lecturers at Uni).

If you are attending I look forward to seeing you :)

also I fixed up my games page a while back but haven’t mentioned it here, it’s re-organised a little and I added plenty of games that were missing, including some unfinished stuff like ZIP QUEST, ZagiZigi and A Fishing Adventure (which placed third overall in ludum dare 17 woo!) and I even included my first ‘proper’ game, Platform Lemmings

…but if they did, they wouldn’t break (like yours is about to)

Yep, I made a game for mini Ludum Dare this weekend, click here to play.

also as I havent pointed it out on this blog yet, work on Phantasmal has resumed since taking a break from it to make BOXGAME (yes, it was that long ago I stopped work on it omg)

zagizigi4blg

It’s called ZagiZigi, and I made it in the hopes it will get selected for this years Gamma4 event which will be at GDC, which means I’m not letting you play it now! (sorry, really I am -_-;) but in the highly likely chance it isn’t selected (there’s alot of competition, and some of it looks damn beautiful) I am working on a bigger, slightly cooler version for web release time.

if you want to see more though, I just dumped all my development screenies to my crappy blog. :)

So recently a few folks have remarked how Square-Enix totally ripped off my linear RPG, of course I have a team of lawyers working on getting me the billions of yen they owe me, but in the mean-time, a very awesome person called janz approached me asking if it would be cool for him to translate the game into Chinese. my response was ‘Hell yes!’

linearrpgchYou can play this version of the game by clicking here.

on a personal note, I am really psyched about this, it’s the first time one of my games has ever been available in a language other than English, so a huge thanks to janz for his awesome offer and translation :D
