{"id":99,"date":"2009-11-27T16:51:44","date_gmt":"2009-11-27T16:51:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sophiehoulden.com\/writings\/fair\/?p=99"},"modified":"2009-11-27T16:51:44","modified_gmt":"2009-11-27T16:51:44","slug":"chapter-38-night-reading","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sophiehoulden.com\/writings\/fair\/?p=99","title":{"rendered":"Chapter 38: Night Reading."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!-- \t\t@page { size: 21cm 29.7cm; margin: 2cm } \t\tP { margin-bottom: 0.21cm } --><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lucida Sans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">In the middle of a field with long grass, Claire slept in her tent, Timon rested looking up at the stars and Aella read her mother&#8217;s diary in the firelight.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;\">\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lucida Sans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">&#8217;18<sup>th<\/sup> day of the walking moon, division year.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;\">\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lucida Sans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Today I finally arrived in Koob, its not much to look at yet but everyone is excited and construction seems to be very rapid. I don&#8217;t blame the people of Koob either, they built their library first and it is truly magnificent. Any city built to match such a great building will be a wonderful sight to behold.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;\">\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lucida Sans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">I only got in a little before dusk, so I didn&#8217;t get long to look at everything, but the library stays open all through the night, there are even sofas where guests can read and spend time if they want. This really does feel like the center of civilisation.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;\">\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lucida Sans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Anyway, most of the researchers have left for the night so I am going to wait here till the morning, apparently there is a caf\u00c3\u00a9 round here somewhere so I&#8217;ll get a hot drink and then crash on a sofa.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;\">\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lucida Sans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Good night diary!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;\">\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;\">\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lucida Sans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">19<sup>th<\/sup> day of the walking moon, division year.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;\">\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lucida Sans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Today didn&#8217;t start great diary, I woke up too early and decided to kill time browsing the library, but I got really lost. This place is love a hundred story labyrinth diary! I was lost for hours, I wanted to just levitate over the shelves and spot the exit but I didn&#8217;t know if it would freak people out. So I just wandered until I bumped into someone who lent me a map. And even then it took me a half hour to find the entrance again.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;\">\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lucida Sans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">And the day didn&#8217;t improve then, I asked at the reception who I could talk to about white event research and they told me that The Irfan team was away studying some arena on a fifteen month expedition. I almost collapsed but it turns out I was lucky, they had already completed the expedition and were expected back within the week.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;\">\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lucida Sans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">So with a week to kill in Koob, I figured I&#8217;d get some exploring done, I went all over town to see them making new buildings, which was brilliant to look at, the buildings are going to be huuuge!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;\">\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lucida Sans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">My favourite place so far is a little caf\u00c3\u00a9 I found a few blocks from the library, its run by a really sweet guy who has a passion for making cakes, and he&#8217;s really good at it too, we got to talking and I promised each day I would try a new cake until I had tasted them all, and then I would tell him my favourite.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;\">\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lucida Sans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Anyway, for the time being I&#8217;m sleeping at the library again, its good that they don&#8217;t mind that kind of thing here, such openness is really refreshing!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;\">\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lucida Sans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Speaking of refreshing though its been days since I had a shower, I became very aware of this when I was in Terry&#8217;s caf\u00c3\u00a9 (oh, his name&#8217;s terry by the way diary!) which smelt so nice. I wondered what I must have smelt like&#8230; ugh I&#8217;m too gross diary, no 1 on tomorrow&#8217;s to-do list is find a bath house!.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;\">\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lucida Sans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Night diary!&#8217;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;\">\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lucida Sans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Aella closed the diary and lay back into the grass, looking at it reach up into the stars, she wished she could live a life as carefree as her mother had done, Koob seemed to be the perfect place to make a home. But the bracelet kept her from that.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;\">\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lucida Sans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Aella turned on her side, her mother had the bracelet too she thought, she must have realised she had the same burden too and that&#8217;s maybe why she left Koob.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;\">\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-family: Lucida Sans,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">The crackling of the fire played out as Aella&#8217;s thoughts gradually turned to dreams.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In the middle of a field with long grass, Claire slept in her tent, Timon rested looking up at the stars and Aella read her mother&#8217;s diary in the firelight. &#8217;18th day of the walking moon, division year.
